My daughter has announced, while eating pasta with sausage in it, that she is going vegan. I made a point of telling her that what she was eating isn’t exactly a vegan diet. She scoffed at me, like I made a ridiculous statement, and said yes I know. We shall see how this goes with her!
But it got me thinking to when I lived in Calgary – I was doing a weight loss challenge at work and while exercising, drinking water and trying to eat right, I stumbled across a cookbook that I picked up right away. It was about clean eating. I looked up the definition of clean eating from the Mayo Clinic website:
“The fundamentals of eating clean encourage you to consume more whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains and healthy fats — and limit highly processed snack foods, sweets and other packaged foods.”
I took this to heart back then, started eating clean, as well as continuing my exercise regimen, and I ended up losing over 30 pounds. This was 10 years ago – and I’ve gained it all back because of my sugar addiction. But I am determined to get back to the clean eating – it’s not a diet, it’s simply a lifestyle decision. Changing habits, not necessarily excluding food. I am determine to kick my sugar habit and clean eating I know will work for me. I need to set my mind to it that I am going to do this, and just do it.
How do you stay healthy? Do you choose healthy foods? And do you have a secret to share with me on how to lose weight and still eat ice cream and chocolate? Because if you have that secret PLEASE share!
