How the world is changing… Earth Day 2020

I just finished watching a fascinating, albeit somewhat frightening, documentary on PBS about climate change. What startled me the most were the images of the world where trees had been destroyed, thus eliminating one way to fight against the carbon dioxide in the air.

One of the people interviewed at the end was Greta Thunberg, the young girl who has been such a strong voice for young and old about how we need to get up and do something to fix the climate change problem. She is amazing and I hope she continues on throughout her young life protesting and encouraging young and old all over the world to change our ways and to save our planet.

One of the things that struck me as such an innovative way to help reduce the carbon in the air where the air turbines – located in a sea near England. Not only using air but also water to create energy – why are all the countries in the world not doing this? More air turbines can only help – NOT hurt – our environment.

I am one of the generations that are to blame for the environmental condition we are in now. I know we need to change and I want to change. I want this world to become healthier, and to be a safe place for my grandchildren to grow up in. I really believe that we can do this, and I know we have to!

The coronavirus has been devastating, but at the same time, there have been some good things to come out of it. Being on lock-down, or self-isolation, is keeping us from producing unhealthy carbon in the air. Let’s hope that we can continue this way after the lock-downs are lifted.

So on this day – Earth Day 2020 – the 50 year anniversary of Earth Day – let’s all pledge to do one small thing each day to help our planet earth become a healthier place to live.

Choices

We make choices every single day; what to eat, what to wear, what to do.  We make choices that are sometimes good ones, sometimes not so good.  But we always have a CHOICE.

So in this troubling time with Covid-19 rapidly spreading throughout the world, let’s make some good choices.  Choose to stay home at all times.  Choose to wash your hands with warm water and soap A LOT! (of course this should be a given that we do this, however, there are people out there who need to be reminded to do this).  Choose to check on neighbours, older relatives and friends who are alone to make sure they are all right.  Choose to do the right thing – we all have it in us to do the right thing.

I heard this song yesterday while I was sitting on the balcony, enjoying the afternoon sun, and I couldn’t help but think how appropriate this song is right now.  We all have choices to make – why not choose the ones that will save people’s lives?   Be safe everyone!

Lyrics

I’ve had choices
Since the day that I was born
There were voices
That told me right from wrong
If I had listened
No I wouldn’t be here today
Living and dying
With the choices I made

I was tempted
By an early age I found
I liked drinkin’
Oh, and I never turned it down
There were loved ones
But I turned them all away
Now I’m living and dying
With the choices I made

I’ve had choices
Since the day that I was born
There were voices
That told me right from wrong
If I had listened
No I wouldn’t be here today
Living and dying
With the choices I made

I guess I’m payin’
For the things that I have done
If I could go back
Oh, Lord knows I’d run
But I’m still losin’
This game of life I play
Living and dying
With the choices I made

I’ve had choices
Since the day that I was born
There were voices
That told me right from wrong
If I had listened
No I wouldn’t be here today
Living and dying
With the choices I made

Living and dying
With the choices I made

Dreaming on a gloomy day…

It’s a gloomy day here in Canada, and I have been looking back at some of my favourite places that I’ve travelled to, and some new ones that I will be seeing. It’s always a day to share and here are some pictures and memories of mine!

Big Ben and area – London February 2016
Eiffel Tower – July 2016
Harbin China – February 2017
The Andes in Santiago, Chile August 2017
Atacama Desert – September 2017
The beautiful beaches of Arica, Chile – September 2017
Parliament Buildings, Ottawa, – June 2019
Future trip to Angkor Wat Cambodia – aiming for 2022
Victoria Falls, Zambia Africa – 2021 trip

It’s so lovely to look back at memories made, and to dream of future places to see

So long 2019 – on to a better 2020!

2019 started off as a pretty great year – I jetted off to Spain, Morocco and Portugal. I had such a fantastic time and met so many amazing people – I was really looking forward to the whole year being as great as the start of the year of 2019.

Well, it has turned into a very trying year in many ways. My own personal being was okay, but it was a stressful and trying year. I am happy to say that, as the end of the year arrives, it appears to be turning around. 2020 looks like it’s going to be a much better year.

There are so many things to look forward to in my life in the upcoming year and, as I have learned this year, I will take one day at a time and look forward to what each day will bring. I am planning on a prolonged visit to SE Asia – Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand are on the list this coming year. I hope I can make it work out and I am going to try my hardest to make this happen.

I have learned to be even more patient this year, and once again I have discovered just how strong I am, and learning new things about me and my tolerance level.

I did manage to squeeze in a quick trip to Ottawa, a city in Canada that I had never seen before, and I was mesmerized by the beauty of our capital city. I hope to see more of Ottawa one day, and more of this beautiful country I live in. PEI, Northwest Territories, and even Nunavut is appealing to me. It’s on the longer bucket list of mine.

So while the year comes to an end, I look back and think of all the positive things that have happened, and reflect on the trying times, and know that I have become a stronger person because of them.

Time to let 2019 go, and head on to 2020 with my eyes wide open, my head on straight, and my dreams even bigger.

Future endeavours

Yes, I am already thinking of my future.  Future travels, future endeavours.  I have made a big step today for my future!

Trips I have in mind already – Costa Rica is on my mind.  Northern Canada.  Norway.  But I have made a bigger step to my future today.  Something I hope that will bring on a possible new career.

I want to become a public speaker to high school kids and young adults, talking to them about budgeting and living without credit.  I have submitted a proposal to the public library to start with weekend classes!   I am very excited to start something that I really feel I can teach young adults about.  I have experience with this, many years of personal experience, so I believe I would be a good person to show this to people.

I really believe that high school students should be learning life skills that are going to help them in the real world.  Budgeting is such a big part of this, as well as teaching them that they can live without credit.

I am excited to be pursuing this next chapter of my life!!
