Daily Thought – August 29

Stress – when I’m stressed out I head to the kitchen. And I eat and eat and eat. Whatever I can find, I eat. I hate that I do this but it’s what I’ve done all my life. Stress eating has been part of my life since I was a teenager. The battle of the bulge has been a constant for me, and it’s the one battle I’d like to win!

We all have stress in our lives – sometimes it takes over our minds and causes us to do unhealthy things – like eat, drink or smoke too much. I am trying to take one day at a time, meditate and do deep breathing to calm myself. It doesn’t always work but most of the times it does.

Today is one of those days – I have looked at everything I need to and have adjusted my budget and calmed my nerves somewhat – however, the fridge won so far today! After nap time for baby, we will head out for a walk so I can work off this stress!

A lovely day for a walk! And random thoughts!

The past two days have been beautiful here in Southern Ontario. Definitely not a typical winter so far. We have had blue skies, warm temperatures – all so tempting to get out and hike, or walk, or just sit in the sun and enjoy it. Okay so maybe it’s not that warm to sit in the sun and enjoy it. But it has been beautiful out!

I enjoy walking and exploring new areas. Yesterday I took a very long (2 hours long) walk in the area. I need to get out walking more and I am so glad I did!

One thing I noticed while walking were the houses. I live in an area that is definitely more prosperous than other areas I have lived in. So the houses can be quite big. And today it got me thinking – why do people want such big houses? Is it to show other people that they are successful? Some of these houses obstructed views for others. And they take up so much space. And do they really enjoy cleaning them? Do they all have housekeepers? What about the lawns? Landscapers? So many questions went through my mind.

Many (many) years ago, I had a dream of owning a big house out in the country, with a wrap-around porch, and rocking chairs out on the porch to sit on and enjoy the day whittle away. Now I think – why would I want that? I would love to have the money that it would cost to have a big house but I’d use it to travel! (When we can again that is!)

I love the views I came across and all I could think about was, what if developers decided to come in and take it all away, just to build apartment buildings or ridiculously large houses that no one can really afford but pretend that they can?

My mind is a funny place, when I go walking I think of all sorts of things that make me question people and myself too. When did I become judgmental of people for owning a big house? Am I judgmental? I really try not to be, but I just don’t see the point in a big house. But that’s just the way I think I guess.

In the meantime, I will continue to enjoy my walks and enjoy my often strange thoughts!

Exercising – it hurts!

Okay, so maybe it doesn’t hurt.  Just when I haven’t done it in a long time!  Exercising and losing weight.  Both have been a never ending battle for me all my life.  I walk a lot!  And I eat a lot – which is why I walk a lot haha!!

Walking machine?  Like a treadmill – I think!!  It’s a great workout for the legs and cardio too!

 

Here in China, they take exercising to a whole new level, and I have hopped on that bandwagon!  They get up very early every day, and they get out to walk and do exercises at these machines.  They do Tai Chi (I think…) in the parks, and they dance in the evenings.  I don’t do the dancing, although before I leave I want to see if they will let me join in !  But I have been exercising!!

There are exercise areas all over the city – and I am very lucky to have several spots near my home so that I really have no excuse not to be exercising.  I do still come up with excuses (it’s human nature to do that isn’t it?), but since the weather has cooled down lately, I have been getting out every day and using these machines.  Plus I walk at least 30 minutes every day around the area, usually in the evening.   And it has been working, because I have lost weight – my clothes are definitely looser and I feel better.
